Trojska school extension.
Prague | Czech republic
Status Competition 2018
Client City District Prague 7 - Troja
Value Undisclosed
The proposal is restrained and timeless, simple and abstract, rational and modular… like some sculptures in the garden, like precise appliances plugged into the existing premises to efficiently solve what the complex needs. The communal centre, set on a different plot a few meters away from the schools, will be the third piece within the landscaped environment: a muted, abstract element that draws a carved-out and sculptural volume that enriches the required interior space.
Far from proposing one more extension compromising the logic around the emblematic building from 1928, we will make an honest assessment involving economy and rationality. The 1951 extension, which mimics the original style, fails to solve the functional needs of both schools. Thus, and with the intention of shaping up an effective and meaningful complex, the proposal pursues recovering the original identity of the 1928 building by replacing this extension for a new, purpose-built contemporary piece to fulfil present and future needs. I
Looks reasonable keeping the sports building to optimize budgetary restrictions. The proposal just adds -where there was an outdoor maintenance stair- an element to address that needed secondary vertical circulation and, equally, sets a delivery access, next to the vehicle area.
