Ancient croft cottage refurbishment and extension | Studio- house
Aldclune, Perth & Kinross | Scotland, UK
Status Planning app. granted | Ongoing
Client Private
Value Undisclosed
Deep within Cairngorms National Park, Spey bench cottage is thought to have been built on the 18th Century. At present it shows a poor conservation condition and the proposal seeks a refurbishment of the complete construction to recover its original proportion and massing. Half of it is still standing and better preserved: it outlines its typical section, roof pitch, eaves and ridge levels. The other half, -at the western end-, however, has almost disappeared as there are just some walls up, which confirm the original layout. The proposal is based in recovering this original volume by keeping the existing remains and bringing back this historic cottage to life.
We propose a subtle rear extension, hidden in the surrounding natural context, to enjoy the woodland and tie-up with the terrain at the rear side of the cottage. This will provide the renovated ancient refurbished construction with extra premises completing the layout.
